Children’s Book Sale

The 11th Children’s Book Sale was a huge success. Thank you to all who came out.

For those of you that have heard stories about lead in Children’s books; Libraries and thrift stores have been given a one-year stay of enforcement by the Consumer Products Safety Commission on having to test for lead in books geared to youngsters under the age of 12. The extension, announced on January 30, 2009, exempts the library and used book community from either having to ban children from their facilities or close the children’s sections or sales. The American Library Association, Friends of Libraries USA, and numerous publishers and bookselling organizations are working with members of Congress and the CPSC to ensure that the matter is resolved once and for all in the coming year.

Be assured the Friends of the Houston Public Library is monitoring this matter very closely.
