Children’s Booksale a Success

The Friends held its first ever children’s Book Sale Oct. 5-6, 2001. The goals of the sale were to raise money for the Houston Public Library and to help teachers replenish their stock of classroom books at a low cost.

The book sale was advertised to Friends members and to schools in the Houston Independent School District as well as those in surrounding districts. More than 11,000 books were taken to the sale and more than 7,000 of the books were sold. A total of $10,000 was raised for HPL.

A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers who helped make this event so successful and to Margaret Farmer and Jim Hundemer, the co-chairs of the sale.
